The Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) formally came into being during 2011 and is now a fully-fledged Big 5 game reserve. It is unique in that it is probably the only free roaming Big 5 reserve in the world that is completely located within the urban boundaries of a major metropolitan area. It was also established through a collaboration agreement between the private sector (providing land and tourism infrastructure) and the government (providing scientific expertise, maintenance and game). It is easily accessible and is a mere 30min drive from Pretoria.
