Vanderbijlpark alive with new development

Vanderbijlpark alive with new development

23 December 2010

Responding to rapidly rising demand, property developers are hard at work in Vanderbijlpark, on the banks of the Vaal River, and new apartments and cluster homes are going up apace.

And unusually in the current market, says Cas Aucamp, co-owner of the brand new Aida office in the town, many of these units are actually being bought off plan. “Prices vary, of course, depending on size and location, but buyers right across the range from around R400 000 to around R2,5m are lining up for the new developments as they are launched.

“This is the first time we have seen this in several years, and the reason is mostly that buyers are leaning strongly towards the safety and security offered by the new security villages and estates.”

Much of the demand for flats, he says, is coming from parents buying accommodation for their children attending the North West University campus in Vanderbijlpark and Vaal University of Technology, and from investors who favour the student market.

“The mix also contains a strong contingent of Vaal River ‘weekenders’ who want a lock-up-and-go holiday home close to Emfuleni Resort, Emerald Casino, Loch Vaal and the many other local attractions, and an increasing number of upmarket buyers relocating from Johannesburg in search of a more relaxed lifestyle.”

The town is, Aucamp notes, just one hour’s drive from OR Thambo International airport, and offers a wide choice of good primary and secondary schools, as well as convenient shopping at the Vaal Mall, a new Makro and the Bedworth Centre, which is currently undergoing a major upgrade.

Originally built as a model town for the thousands of employees of the local Iscor steel mill (now an ArcelorMittal plant), Vanderbijlpark also has an excellent basic infrastructure and good medical and other community facilities.

“The council and local businesses are also working very hard to maximise the advantages of the town’s location and create new jobs through tourism development and the promotion of nearby attractions such as the Vaal River Meander wine route, the butterfly park and numerous game parks. These plans were given a boost when the Vaal Triangle played host to both the Swiss and Ivory Coast teams during the Soccer World Cup earlier this year.”

In short, he says, Vanderbijlpark is a thriving, growing town with a lot of promise and the staff of the new Aida office are looking forward to getting involved in the community and becoming a household name in the lively local property market.
